From January 30 – February 27 2010, a photographic exhibition entitled Dragon Kingdoms by Bhutan-born Chubzang Tangbi will take place in the Art Gallery at The Riverfront.
Chubzang is originally from Bhutan, a country shaped by mountains, rivers and valleys and symbolised by a dragon – sharing a number of similarities with Wales.
Chubzang was intrigued by pictures and tales of Wales and spent time travelling the country. At first he was unprepared for such an elaborate infrastructure and built-up landscape. But, he soon came across more isolated cottages and farms; hills and mountains where sheep were more common than people, and green valleys where ancient bridges crossed crystal clear rivers.
He comments, “I found a land steeped in ancient culture, a strong people with strong beliefs and a desire to protect their beloved land. This photographic journey of discovery truly astonished me.”
Chubzang now lives in Newport and his exhibition depicts beautiful and vibrant images of his home country, Bhutan and his current home, Wales.
The Art Gallery is open from 11am until 7pm daily, Monday to Friday and 11am until 5pm on Saturdays. For regular art gallery information, please join The Riverfront’s art gallery newsletter by visiting the website www.newport.gov.uk/theriverfront
