Paul Turner’s Newport Gwent Dragons failed to kick off their Heineken Cup campagin with a win when Glasgow earned a hard fought win at Firhill.
The Dragons, despite winger Aled Brew’s best efforts, left Scotland knowing they will have to raise their game significantly if they are going to get out of their pool.
With reigning champions Toulouse and past winners Wasps also in the group, the Dragons face an uphill struggle to get out of this group and if they were to give themselves any hope, victory on Scottish soil would have been a major boost to their hopes.
However a workmanlike performance by Glasgow ensured the Scots gained revenge on their recent Magners League defeat at Rodney Parade.
The home side dominated the early exchanges but were hit with a sucker punch when winger Adam Hughes went over in the 19th minute after the Dragons recylcled the ball with purpose and speed to set up the opening try.
Fly half Ruaridh Jackson chipped away with his boot, guiding three penalties between the uprights to put his side in front before Glasgow got their first try by Scotland centre Graeme Morrison.
Matthew Jones pegged the score back with a penalty and with an early second half effort the Dragons looked to be in with a chance but a try by hooker hooker Fergus Thomson put the Scots out of reach.
