The clean-up of the sea around Pembrokeshire is being supported by an environmentally-conscious company based more than 100 miles away.
Caerphilly-based Draig Business Services Group has become official sponsors of Neptune’s Army of Rubbish Cleaners (NARC).
The Pembrokeshire-based charity is a voluntary group of divers (pictured at Hobbs Point, Pembrokeshire) with a passion for keeping the underwater environment as pristine as it should be.
Ross Porter, Managing Director of the Draig Business Services Group, said: “I grew up by the sea in Barmouth so the coast has always been important in my life.
“I’m very aware of the importance of keeping the waters around Wales clean not only for the animals and plants but also for those that live in and visit Pembrokeshire. Everyone has a part to play in keeping our environmental as free from litter and debris as possible.
“NARC is doing such great work, and although we’re headquartered in the South Wales Valleys, I felt it was important to support their sterling work in an area I really love visiting.”
Since its inception in 2005 by local diver Dave Kennard and Keep Wales Tidy, NARC has carried out more than 60 underwater clean-ups and a number of awareness raising events.
NARC Secretary David Jones said: “Without support from organisations and businesses like Draig, we quite simply would not be able to carry out our underwater clean-up dives.
“As a volunteer group we rely solely on funding and donations to not only help keep our seas clean but also raise awareness of the problem and what we can do as individuals to help.
“Draig’s support has helped us clean-up a part of Skomer Marine Nature Reserve (Wales’ only MNR) which is a special place.”
