Theatregoers have the opportunity to enjoy fantastic drama and comedy at Blackwood Miners’ Institute this July.
On Thursday 17th July members of the Blackwood Miners’ Institute drama group will perform their take on a classic, with a performance of ‘Waiting for Godot in Blackwood’. This traditional piece of absurd theatre, devised by the group themselves, will explore life as we know it in Blackwood and uses Samuel Beckett’s original text to gain rather unique responses. The show starts at 8pm and is approximately one hour long.
On Friday 18th July younger members take to the stage with three fantastic performances. Infants will showcase their talents in a short show called ‘Happy Ever After’, which features a cast of characters from the world of fairytales. Junior students have prepared a play called ‘Time Flies’, an original show that takes the audience through time, visiting major historical events along the way. Finally senior students perform their piece ‘Don’t Come Here from England….’ a devised comedy about an English head teacher who is brought in to turn around a failing Welsh school. The show starts at 7pm and will finish at approximately 8.30pm.
Sharon Casey, Arts Service Manager, said: “The BMI Community Theatre Group have classes for all ages, from ages 5 to adult. They meet weekly with their Tutor Ruth Majeed and this is a chance for them to showcase their talent and acting skills. The theatre groups are designed to not only improve acting skills, but also to build confidence, develop social skills and most importantly to have fun!”
Tickets for both performances are £2 and available by calling Blackwood Miners’ Institute on 01495 227206, or by visiting www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com.
