Duke of Edinburgh Volunteers Gain Prize in Adventure Race

An inspiring group of six young adult volunteers with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Neath Port Talbot took part in a fundraising event in the Brecon Beacons.

The team was sponsored by Western Power who paid the entry fee of £400.The adventure race included running, cycling, canoeing and orienteering. All six NPT entrants had previously undertaken the bronze, silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and now volunteer as leaders.

Neil Hapgood NPT Duke of Edinburgh Awards Co-ordinator said, “The intensity of the race and range of disciplines pushed all the participants to their limits. The Neath Port Talbot team members demonstrated incredible determination and team spirit which paid off by winning the ‘Best Endeavour Team’ Prize, a great selection of race equipment from outdoor company Berghaus.”

Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council Ali Thomas, said, “The young people from Neath Port Talbot have once again shown their dedication to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme by taking part in such a physically and emotionally demanding fundraising event.

“This is another example of how NPT Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme is leading the way across Wales thanks to the commitment of the team led by Neil Hapgood and the dedicated young volunteers in Neath Port Talbot.”
