The launch of two Supporting People DVDs called ‘A Home to Live In’ and ‘Extra Care’ took place at Cefn Glas Extra Care Scheme in Blackwood this week.
Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Lyn Ackerman said, “These two DVDs are very useful to help people make informed decisions when planning for their future. It is vital that residents within the Caerphilly county borough who require extra care are aware of the services we offer and the DVDs convey this information in a user-friendly way.”
The film called ‘A Home to Live In’, explains the various accommodation options available to people with a learning disability. Sharon Blow, the Chair of Caerphilly People First , features in the DVD with her partner Mark who talk about the floating support they receive allowing them to live independently in their own home. Sharon urges other people who have learning disabilities to watch the DVD and make an informed decision on where to live, and stresses the importance of knowing all of the options available.
Extra Care’, is a compilation of digital stories made by residents and staff of Cefn Glas in Blackwood. It promotes the benefits of living within the Extra Care housing schemes based in Caerphilly, Risca and Blackwood which have been specifically designed to meet the needs of older people or those with a physical disability. They have onsite care support whilst offering the security, independence and privacy of your own home.
The latest development, Plas Hyfryd, is situated in Caerphilly and boasts 49 self contained flats, onsite care staff and non-resident management staff and a community alarm service. Facilities include a lift to all floors, café, restaurant, shop, hairdressing salon, IT Suite, gym and library.
