An ugly eyesore that links Tonyrefail West with Tonyrefail East has been transformed thanks to community effort and excellent partnership work.
Residents of Tonyrefail raised concerns about an underpass that was covered in obscene graffiti, telling representatives at the local PACT meeting that they felt it was dangerous and intimidating.
As a result of the PACT meeting, held monthly at Tonyrefail Comprehensive, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Service for Young People joined forces with Communities First to launch a project which saw young people design a mural for the underpass.
The project which was funded by Tonyrefail e3, is a perfect example of partnership working together.
Councillor Eudine Hanagan, who is the local ward member for Tonyrefail West and attends PACT was very impressed. “ This is an exceptional piece of work and has totally transformed an area of Tonyrefail that had become an eyesore and one that we were committed to improving”
“Thanks to the support and enthusiasm of the community, the underpass has been transformed. People who gave their time and effort to make this happen should be very proud of themselves”
Special thanks to Rhian Kingsbury and Zoe Jenkins detached Youth Work Team.
