Easter Church Burglaries – Appeal for Information

Bridgend Police are investigating burglaries of two local churches which occurred over the Easter weekend, the most important period in the Christian year.

The first burglary occurred sometime between 6.30pm on Good Friday evening and 9.00am the following morning when St Illtyd’s Church in the Newcastle area of the town was broken into and a small amount of petty cash was taken.

The second burglary, at St Mary’s Church, Coity took place sometime between 9.30pm on Saturday April 23rd and 7.30am on Easter Day.  A safe containing some cash and 100 Easter Eggs were stolen.

Bridgend Neighbourhood Inspector Steve Evans said:  “Both of these properties have been targeted in the recent past.  Many people will have attended their local churches to celebrate Easter and will have been very distressed by the actions of those responsible.

“Causing criminal damage and stealing from a church , which provides refuge and comfort to the community, is particularly despicable and we would appeal for anyone with information on these two burglaries to contact us.”

If you have any information with regard to these two burglaries please contact Inspector Steve Evans at Bridgend police station on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
