Are you looking for something fun and informative for the kids to do this Easter holiday? Ever wondered what a mermaid keeps in her purse? Then why not come along to the beach for our annual Great Easter Eggcase Hunt.
On Thursday 28 April Denbighshire County Council’s Countryside Service will be holding an eggcase hunt on the beach at Gronant Dunes. Children and families are invited to come along to help search for the eggcases of skates and rays, also known as mermaids purses and hopefully learn about some of the other weird and wonderful creatures that live in our seas as well.
Linked to the Shark Conservation Trusts National Eggcase Hunt, not only is it a fun couple of hours on the beach, but important in understanding more about skates and rays and how they can best be conserved.
Kate Taylor, Denbighshire’s Senior Biodiversity Officer said “Eggcase hunts are an easy and fun way to identify areas of the coast where skate and ray nursery grounds might occur, critical information needed to help protect these declining creatures and ensure their survival. Come and join the hunt, have fun and help do your bit to find out more about these fascinating animals.”
Anyone wanting to come along should meet at the Lower Gronant car park, opposite the Crofters Pantry Café at 10.30 am. The event will last until 12 noon and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Groups are welcome. You are advised to wear stout footwear as there will be a short walk down to the beach and bring a bag or bucket to put your finds in.
