Are you looking for something fun and informative for the kids to do this Easter holiday? Ever wondered what a mermaid keeps in her purse? Then why not come along to the beach for our annual Great Easter Eggcase Hunt!
On Thursday 12 April Denbighshire County Council’s Countryside Service will be holding the eggcase hunt on the beach at Gronant Dunes.
Children and families are invited to come along to help search for the egg cases of sharks, skates and rays, also known as mermaid’s purses, and hopefully learn about some of the other weird and wonderful creatures that live in our seas.
This event is linked to the Shark Conservation Trust’s National Eggcase Hunt, which is an important way of gathering information about sharks, skates and rays. Above all it is a fun way to spend a couple of hours on the beach, whilst contributing to the conservation of these declining species.
Lizzy Webster, Denbighshire’s Biodiversity Officer said: “Eggcase hunts are a fun and easy way of identifying areas of the coast where sharks, skates and rays have their nursery grounds. By joining us on the eggcase hunt, you can do your bit to help us find out more about these fascinating animals and contribute to their conservation”.
Anyone wanting to come along should meet at the Lower Gronant car park, opposite the Crofters Pantry Café at 10.30am. The event will last until 12.30pm and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Groups are welcome. You are advised to wear stout footwear as there will be a short walk down to the beach and bring a bag or bucket to put your finds in.
