Three years ago Small World Theatre based in Cardigan, Ceredigion came up with the idea of creating an online guide to what’s on in west Wales.
whatevertheweatherwales.co.uk quickly became popular with visitors and locals and features many interesting creative and community based events and activities. The website also gives organisers an opportunity to add their events and subsequently showcases the best of the area, all year round and whatever the weather.
Before food foraging became super trendy, Small World Theatre developed a number of wild food foraging activities with local gastronome Tom Bean and medical herbalist Lara Bernays. There is now a dedicated group of foragers in the Cardigan area who believe it is fun, informative and an important part of our culture and history.
Foraging for edible seaweeds has become very popular in Wales. Most people have eaten seaweed, or at least eaten something made from seaweed without realising and there are hundreds of species growing around our coastline.
‘Edible Seaweed – Seaweed & Fire’ is a family activity on 19 August at Poppit Sands, Pembrokeshire. Lara and Tom combine their knowledge of wild food and herbal medicine and take the group on a guided walk through the various beach environments. After gathering a wide variety of seaside plants, Tom will make a small fire and the group is invited to prepare and eat a delicious feast in the sand dunes.
