The next week looks set to being busy in the National Eisteddfod office as a number of closing dates for the Wrexham festival are fast approaching. So if you’re thinking of competing in one of the composition competitions this year, there’s only a matter of days left to get everything ready.
All applications for the Welsh Learner of the Year competition need to reach us by 31 March. To compete, you must send a short piece (about 300 words) written by either the competitor or the nominator, including background information, the reasons for learning Welsh, the experience of learning Welsh, language use and hopes for the future.
More information and application forms are available online – www.eisteddfod.org.uk. So if you’re still thinking about competing or if you know someone who’s learnt Welsh to a high standard, complete the form with the necessary information and send to us. Who knows, you or a friend of yours may well win this year’s Welsh Learner of the Year competition!
1 April is the closing date for this year’s composition competitions, and everything needs to reach the Organiser, Hywel Wyn Edwards, by the closing date. He said, ”There’s been a great deal of interest in some competitions this year, so it’s obvious that they’ve appealed to our poets and writers, as we’ve had applications coming through for the past few months.
“There’s very little time left to compete, so you need to complete your work over the coming days if your ambition is to win one of the National Eisteddfod’s composing competitions – or you’ll have to wait for another year!”
Envelopes of all shapes and sizes have been arriving at the office, crammed full of original work to be considered for this year’s Eisteddfod. Please try not to leave it until the last minute to send your work in, to make sure that it arrives on time – and good luck with the competing!
The Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod is held on Lower Berse Farm, off Ruthin Road, Wrexham, from 30 July – 6 August this year. For more information go to www.eisteddfod.org.uk.
