Eleri Siôn announces that she won’t be returning to co-present with Dafydd Du on BBC Radio Cymru’s breakfast show.
Eleri took a break from the Dafydd ac Eleri show earlier this year, to have a baby. She was temporarily replaced at the time by Caryl Parry Jones, who will now remain as Dafydd’s co-presenter on the programme, which is broadcast live at 8.30am every week day.
“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, but presenting this programme is the best job in showbiz,” says Eleri, who gave birth to her son, Alffi, in May.
“Before I had a baby I thought I was invincible, and I’d be able to work five mornings a week on the show as well as every weekend doing the sports programmes. But then a hand grenade was thrown into my life – weighing seven pounds 13 ounces, called Alffi!
“If we still lived in Barry it would’ve been possible but we now live in Shrewsbury, where my partner works, and having to travel back and forth to Cardiff during the week as well as presenting Camp Lawn every weekend isn’t really practical when trying to strike a balance between being a mum and working.
“I might be giving up the morning show on Radio Cymru but I’m not leaving Radio Cymru, where I’ll continue to present a programme I’ve been passionate about since I started presenting it 10 years ago, Camp Lawn.
“I’ve loved every minute of working with Daf and the team and wish Caryl all the best – as a friend and as someone who gave me one of my first presenting jobs, 20 years ago now.”
“I agree with Eleri, it’s an ideal job,” says Caryl, “talking for two hours!
“We have a lot of fun with our listeners – it feels like we’re sharing breakfast with the nation, in a huge canteen! I’m delighted I’ve been asked to stay on. I’m glad to be following in Eleri’s footsteps and, of course, to be able to carry on working with Daf.”
