Commenting on the announcement that the Small Business Rates Relief Scheme in Wales will be extended for a further financial year, Eluned Parrott, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Business and Economy Minister, said:
“The Welsh Liberal Democrats have been calling for the Welsh Government to extend this important scheme, so we are pleased with this announcement.
“Thanks to the Coalition Government’s announcement in the Autumn Statement that it was to extend its business rates scheme, the Welsh government has been able to follow suit. Leaving Welsh businesses at a competitive disadvantage simply wasn’t an option.
“Business rates are a deeply regressive tax that hit small businesses disproportionally hard. While this announcement is welcome, I believe that in the long term business rates must be reformed.”
