An emergency closure of a road in Church Village will be taking place this weekend (16th/17th July) due to a possible collapse in the road.
A section of Church Road (near to the Vicarage) which is very narrow and will consequently require to be closed to through traffic for the duration of the works. The road is programmed to be closed from 7am on Saturday 16th July until 7pm on Sunday 17th July whilst the Council’s highways engineers carry out the essential repairs.
The road closure will take place near a section of residential properties but access to these properties will be maintained.
The closure will affect both the regular bus service and motorists wishing to use the road. A diversion will be in place, whereby traffic will be diverted along lower Church Road, Main Road and up to St Illtyd’s Road, this will remain in place until the necessary repair works are completed. This diversion will result in longer journey times and some disruption to bus timetables on Saturday, including no bus service for parts of upper Church Village, which will include the section of road in Church Road from Tonteg Hospital to the junction with St Illtyd’s road and St Illtyd’s road from its junction with Church Road and Cae Fadre Estate.
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Cabinet Member for Transport, Customer Care and Emergency Planning, explained: “Our repair team will be doing all within their power to carry out this essential repair work to the collapse as quickly as possible and we trust motorists will remain patient with us during this time.
