During half term week 12 young people from Gwynedd attended Gwynedd’s Criw Actif training workshop. The courses were held in Caernarfon and Y Bala and proved to be very successful.
The Criw Actif is a scheme inspired by the 2012 Olympic Games. The aim of the scheme is to encourage young people to volunteer in the field of sports in their communities, and to give them an opportunity to gain sporting qualifications.
Over the next months, members of the Criw Actif will help arrange many activities in a number of school (primary and secondary), local clubs and sporting events across the county. The scheme has been running for two years and as a result many young people from across the county have gained excellent opportunities.
Criw Actif members are a vital part to Gwynedd’s plans to celebrate the Olympic Games, and they arrange many events across the county, including the Secondary Triathlon and Sportshall athletics.
Huw Evans Gwynedd Council’s Active Young People Officer said: “It’s great to see these young people giving a day of their holidays to attend these training courses. Young people play a vital part in achieving our objective of ensuring that all children enjoy sports for life here in Gwynedd.
“The main aim of the scheme is to give young people the chance to gain experiences and opportunities and to achieve their full potential. During the last three years we have seen many of Criw Actif’s members going on to gain other qualifications such as Football leaders, hockey and fitness trainers.”
If you’re a young person under 18 living in Gwynedd, wishing to gain sporting qualifications, who is willing to volunteer, visit the website www.gwynedd.gov.uk/criwactif for more information.
