Commenting on the decision of another major energy supplier to announce bumper hikes in gas and electricity charges, Mark Isherwood, Shadow Minister for Social Justice and Housing, said:
“This is another blow to families and pensioners, many of whom are reliant on fixed incomes.
“These massive and sudden rises in energy bills are likely to force more vulnerable people into fuel poverty.
“While global energy bills remain uncertain, suppliers have a responsibility to manage their winter tariffs in a way which protects the most vulnerable consumers from unexpected and unfair price hikes.”
