With Spring fast approaching, Trading Standards is organising an event to raise awareness of safety in and around the garden environment.
Together with partner agencies, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Trading Standards will host the ‘Garden Safe’ event at Gilfach Bargoed Community Centre on Wednesday 31st March.
The event will run from 9.30am until 4.30pm, and aims to raise awareness of issues affecting personal and general safety in and around the garden.
Cllr Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment said, “This event promises to be an excellent opportunity for residents to come along and find out more about safety issues in and around the garden.
I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and take full advantage of all the safety advice and assistance that the team have to offer.”
Electrical garden equipment is normally used for only a few months of the year and may have deteriorated badly over the winter months, resulting in damage to wiring, plugs and cords.
People who attend the event will have the opportunity to bring along their garden electrical equipment and have it safety tested by an electrical engineer for FREE.
Also on offer will be a presentation by horticultural expert Terry Walton on ‘allotmenteering’, as well as cookery demonstrations using home grown produce.
Information will also be available on various safety themes including safety in the sun, slips and trips hazard awareness, crime prevention advice, poisonous plants, and advice on making your garden safe for pets.
