A Pembrokeshire secondary school has been singled out for praise in this year’s Estyn report.
Wales’s chief inspector of education and training, Dr Bill Maxwell highlighted Ysgol y Preseli in his annual report into the quality of education across the country.
Inspectors visited the Crymych school earlier this year and said standards in Welsh first language at both key stage 3 and sixth form levels were “outstanding” as well as “good” at key stage 4.
“Pupils’ bilingual skills are developed fully and the language is used in all subject areas,” the report said.
“Nearly all pupils use Welsh as a means of communication to teachers or fellow pupils. They are able to transfer their skills from one language to the other with confidence and ease.”
The report also singled out the Pembrokeshire’s Children’s and Young People’s Partnership (CYPP) in its inspection of youth support services in the County.
Inspectors found that the services’ self evaluation systems were “strong and effective” and said the major partners to the CYPP had “good and at times outstanding performance management systems in place.”
