European partnerships on lesson plan for teachers

Teachers from Denbighshire joined colleagues from Flintshire and Wrexham at a recent conference to learn about how primary schools in North East Wales can create effective links with other schools across Europe.

The event, organised by Europe Direct and David Phoenix, Adviser for International Awareness , saw 60 teachers get together to explore how to set up school partnerships and apply for grants to develop links with other schools.

There was also an opportunity to discuss how to organise a visit by the Member of the European Parliament, run a European Day and access free resources to teach children about the European Union.

Representatives from Ysgol Bryn Hedydd, Rhyl (as well as a Kinnerton primary school from Flintshire) gave an insight into their well- established European partnerships.

Participating pupils shared with the audience what they had gained from European link,  including strong friendships and an improved understanding of Welsh culture, as well as that of the partner country.
