Swansea Children’s Centre is holding a free style party to encourage parents to beat the credit crunch and give their wardrobe a revamp.
The event is an innovative idea that encourages people to swap or give away items that may otherwise go to waste.
Anyone with clothes, shoes or jewelry stuck in the back of their wardrobe can take the opportunity to exchange them for a stylish bargain rather than throwing them in the bin.
The multi-purpose Swansea Council led Children’s Centre aims to give children the best possible start to life by providing youngsters and their parents assistance in everything including childcare, education and health.
The event is part of the center’s Eco-Centre program which it takes on environmental issues and applies them to the day-to-day running of the centre.
To take part in the swap shop people must bring a minimum of one accessory, a pair of shoes, a piece of clothing or an item of jewelry. This can be up to a maximum of ten of items and people must be prepared to swap them.
The event takes place at the Eppynt Road-based centre in Penlan on Friday, February 26 from 11am to 1pm.
Centre Manager Cari Beuse said: “The centre has been doing lots of things which have led to a rise in knowledge and commitment to the environment.
“Sustainability and green issues are always high on the agenda and of course in difficult economic times reusing and recycling can have financial benefits too.
“In the run-up to Christmas staff here held credit crunch Christmas craft sessions where families were invited to come along and learn a new skill which would help then to reduce the cost of Christmas
“The aim of our free style event is to raise awareness of waste- especially the way we dispose of and treat the waste we produce. Landfill space used to dispose of our household waste is rapidly decreasing. Materials that you may class as waste may be of use to others and if you attend the Swap Shop you will be helping to divert waste from landfill by re-using unwanted belongings.”
