Excellent GCSE Results for Caerphilly Students

Provisional examination results for Caerphilly show that the percentage of pupils who achieved the Level 2 Threshold (5 GCSE passes at A*-C or vocational equivalent) has increased significantly to 61%, up from 54% in 2009.

The overall pass rate of 97.9 per cent (grades A* to G) is in line with last year’s performance.

The percentage of grades awarded at A* to C increased to 61.1%, up from 60.8% in 2009. This consolidates the significant gains made in the last 2 years and is the best performance to date.

CCBC cabinet member for education, Cllr Phil Bevan was keen to recognise the achievement of the pupils and their teachers. He said, “Our young people and their teachers deserve to be congratulated on their performance. The results are due to the hard work and abilities of our students and the commitment and dedication of the teachers of Caerphilly CBC.”

The Director of Education and Leisure, Sandra Aspinall said, “This year’s results reflect both the dedication and abilities of our young people, and the commitment of teachers within our schools. They are also testimony to the authority’s strategy to provide a wide range of curriculum options for our students, as part of the Learning Pathways 14-19 Agenda. We believe this will provide the most appropriate learning opportunities for all of our young people, and has seen a significant increase in the proportion of our learners achieving success.”
