Exciting new plans for Welsh Mountain Zoo

One of Wales’ premier tourist attractions is set to get even better thanks to ambitious plans for the future.

The Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay, which became the National Zoological Society of Wales last year, is planning to develop a brand new tropical house which will include a science discovery and education centre. The plans are being supported as part of the strategic regeneration initiative currently underway in Colwyn Bay.

Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar and the Deputy Minister for Regeneration called at the Zoo this week to receive an update on the proposals and to mark British Tourism Week.

Commenting after the visit, Darren Millar said:

“It is always a pleasure to visit the Welsh Mountain Zoo which continues to go from strength to strength. Both the Minister and I held live maggots and grubs to feed the meerkats, which was quite an experience for someone who’s not keen on creepy crawlies!

“The zoo is a really important tourist attraction for North Wales and an asset for Colwyn Bay and the local economy.

“It was good to get an update on the Zoo’s plans and I’m grateful to the Deputy Minister for visiting. These plans will ensure that the Zoo will continue to flourish well into the future and is sure to be a key project in the ongoing regeneration of the Colwyn Bay area.”
