Statutory notices will now be published for two school amalgamations in Cardiff following public consultation and a subsequent agreement from the Council’s Executive.
Parents, young people and others in the local community, together with staff and Governors were invited to give their views on the amalgamations of both Marlborough Infants and Junior Schools and Glyncoed Infants and Juniors.
In accordance with a recommendation made in April of this year the consultation was held to obtain views upon both amalgamations and establishing both schools at two forms of entry (an intake of 60) by September 2011.
There were 31 formal responses in all; 13 for Marlborough and 18 for Glyncoed. All of them supported the proposals
Executive Member for Schools and Lifelong Learning Councillor Freda Salway said: “One of the main aims of our schools reorganisation policy is to help primary schoolchildren participate effectively in the Foundation Phase, achieve high standards at Key Stage 2 and transfer seamlessly to secondary education. We must make the best use of resources by creating secure, viable primary schools in every area of the city, while matching the number of places in these schools to the number of local children. These proposals reflect those aims.”
