An exhibition exploring the history and architecture of Valleys houses – including how to care for these traditional homes – can now be seen at Rhondda Heritage Park, Trehafod, near Pontypridd.
Images of these long terraces with colourful windows and doors are known throughout the world. These terraces were built in a relatively short period of time to meet the demand for housing created by the industry of the day and have supported a strong community of people over many generations.
The exhibition, entitled My Valleys House, is intended to help house owners and others involved in making changes to their homes to gain an appreciation about this type of housing and how best to improve it.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: “By working together in this way, the unique character of the terraces of the South Wales Valleys can be strengthened and continue to be a proud statement of our heritage.”
The exhibition is accompanied by a short bilingual film and is supported by an associated website www.myvalleyshouse.org.uk
My Valleys House is open daily from 9am ~ 4.30pm with admission free.
