The countryside surrounding the historic market town of Corwen is rich in its views and history and on Tuesday the 8th of June there is the opportunity to explore the area’s countryside with the local warden.
The 4 and a half mile route will explore Pen y Pigyn, the River Dee and Mynydd y Gaer. It will provide an opportunity to hear about the conservation work from the local warden and about the Heather and Hillforts Project.
Caer Drewyn, one of Wales’ most interesting hillforts will be visited. Outstanding views will be seen of the valley and surrounding hills. The walk will be held in Welsh.
Helen Mrowiec, Heather and Hillforts Project Officer, said: “We are looking forward to the guided walk which will visit monument dating as far back as the Iron Age, around 2,500 years ago, to more recent monuments that can be seen on Pen y Pigyn and of course the historic A5 road. We will walk along the River Dee, which has been protected due to its nature conservation importance.
“This is the first time we have provided a guided walk in the Welsh language and we hope that local people who speak Welsh and those who are learning will join us”.
Bring a pack lunch and suitable footwear. Meet at Corwen Car Park at 10am. This is a 4.5 mile walk, with some steep slopes and outstanding views, we aim to return to the car park around 3pm.
