Plaid Cymru AM Leanne Wood has welcomed extra funding to treat roads within Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Deputy First Minister and Plaid Cymru leader Ieuan Wyn Jones announced earlier this month that £2.75m would be made available to local authorities to tackle potholes. Of that money, £174,219 will be going to Rhondda Cynon Taf county borough council.
The extra funding, in addition to a £5m road maintenance grant already given, is a response to the recent winter freeze which has degraded road surfaces throughout the country. The aim of the extra money is to allow work to begin immediately on remedying potholes before they deteriorate any further.
Leanne Wood AM said: “It is good that Ieuan Wyn Jones has recognised that local authorities need extra help because of the additional potholes caused by the recent bad weather.
“I know from talking to people on the door steps in Rhondda Cynon Taf that plenty of people have complaints about new potholes in their streets.
“Hopefully this money will be used effectively in restoring as many roads as possible.”
