A major promotional initiative is on the cards to breathe new life into empty shops in Denbigh town centre.
Vale of Clwyd based company The Crucial have been appointed by Denbighshire County Council’s Business Support team to produce a report and make visual enhancements to vacant shop units, with support from Denbigh Business Group.
Under the title of ‘Pretty Vacant’ Crucial have developed a window enhancement, a visual design which will highlight the fact that the premises is vacant and ready to let. Exhibitions and graphics will focus on themes around regeneration and a renaissance in the retail offer, and will include illustrations of the town’s heritage. All produce or products appearing in these marketing materials originate in Denbigh.
This project has been set up to reduce the number of vacant units across the town, improve their appearance and direct business people to support that may be on offer to them.
Michelle Rendell, Denbighshire’s Business Support Officer, said: “Empty shops have been a concern for existing businesses, town residents and Denbighshire County Council – both for their impact on employment and in particular on a town’s ‘offer’ and wider sustainability.
“Following an on foot survey and our previous knowledge of the towns’ retail offer, we found the retail experience on the whole a positive one, friendly shopkeepers and an unique specialized retailing experience amongst other day to day essentials.
“We need to capitalise on that and firmly believe that using marketing materials and exhibition displays in our empty shops will help enhance the look and feel of the town centre, making it look more vibrant and send out a clear message that Denbigh businesses mean business.
“We hope that a vibrant and flourishing town centre will attract people to sample what’s on offer in the town and that we can help transform the fortunes of all businesses in town.”
