Conwy County Borough Council has recently allocated £300,000 for a property enhancement scheme for businesses in Llandudno Junction. As part of the Regeneration Programme the investment to develop Conwy Road in Llandudno Junction will offer businesses a grant towards enhancing properties and longer term streetscape improvements.
“The Conservation and Regeneration Council’s Team is leading this initiative and the objective is to create a distinctive and attractive local shopping centre that will meet the aspirations of the Llandudno Junction Masterplan and take advantage of new developments in the area” said Councillor Philip C. Evans, Cabinet Member for Corporate and Regulatory Services.
Llandudno Junction Councillor Mike Priestley said “We have a fantastic opportunity with the opening of the WAG building and we have to take advantage of that. It is vitally important to develop Conwy Road to make it a hub for people working in the town”
Cllr Meirion Hughes said “Strengthening the role of Conwy Road, particularly in respect of the attractiveness, vitality and viability of its retail areas is critical. The vision is to see the local community benefiting from enhanced retail and leisure opportunities, jobs safeguarded and new employment opportunities created in the town”
In addition to the Property Enhancement Scheme, a community consultation exercise is currently being planned which will be carried out later on this year to seek the community’s views on physical improvements that could be made to Conwy Road. The aim of the consultation is to gain people’s ideas regarding improvement to Conwy Road, such as new gateway signage, information points, cycle parking, street furniture, public art, parking and traffic management arrangements.
The aim is to work up affordable improvements to the Conwy Road environment that can then be used to attract future funding over the next ten years.
Local member Cllr Linda Hurr said “The initial investment highlights the Council’s commitment to supporting Llandudno Junction. It is hoped that the local businesses on Conwy Road will take up this opportunity. I encourage businesses to contact the project team”
