Cardiff Council has successfully prosecuted a Cardiff resident for causing a noise nuisance.
On 22nd March 2011 at Cardiff Magistrates Court, Tessa Jane McCarthy of Amethyst Road, Fairwater was found guilty of a breach of a Noise Abatement Notice served under section 80 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
The noise nuisance was caused by loud amplified music being played at the property.
Ms McCarthy was fined £525 in her absence and ordered to pay costs of £220 and a victim surcharge of £15.
Councillor Ed Bridges, Chair of Cardiff’s Public Protection Committee said: “Repetitive noise can seriously affect the quality of life of Cardiff residents and persistent noise offenders will not be tolerated. Cardiff’s Noise Pollution Officers are able to offer practical advice on simple measures that can be taken to avoid neighbour noise problems. However, when circumstances warrant it, officers have powers to take formal action which can result in legal proceedings.”
