Acrobatic performers Spellbound may have taken the plaudits to win TV’s Britain’s Got Talent contest but schoolchildren in one of area of Cardiff are busily rehearsing to bewitch the judges in their own mini competition.
Forget Britain’s Got Talent, this is Fairwater’s Got Talent when youngsters from Peter Lea Primary, Holy Family Roman Catholic Primary and Pentrebane Primary will be showcasing their abilities and flair in a special local contest.
The judges at the competition, hosted by Peter Lea Primary School Community Committee, are likely to be a little more easy-going than the infamous trio on the ITV version with their sharp tongues and harsh critiques but nevertheless, the Fairwater pupils are busy putting the final touches to their acts to ensure they impress.
The contest takes place on Wednesday June 16 at 6pm and some of the acts include hula hooping, rapping, street dancing, group singing, a judo demonstration and a Rod Stewart tribute. The lunchtime supervisors at Peter Lea will also be performing a re-written Beyonce track during the interval to keep the audience entertained.
Prizes have been donated from members of the community as well as Fairwater Spar, Communities First, Fairwater Leisure Centre, Peter Lea Parents Association and Peter Lea Community Committee. All children taking part will also receive certificates and medals.
Executive Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Freda Salway, said: “I’d like to wish all the children taking part in Fairwater’s Got Talent the very best of luck – break a leg! This sounds like a wonderful initiative between the schools in the area. The most important thing is everyone taking part enjoys themselves.”
Peter Lea headteacher Peter Hodgkins said: “The idea for the talent show came from one of our pupils, Megan French. We thought this was an excellent way to get our neighbouring primary schools in the Fairwater area together to showcase the children’s talents.”
