Award-winning Pendyrus Male Voice Choir is dedicating a special charity performance to raise funds for the Maerdy Gateway Memorial Appeal.
The Concert is set to take place on Saturday 1st October, 7 pm at Seion Chapel, Maerdy, who have given free use of their newly refurbished building.
Maerdy residents have called for a fitting memorial to be placed at the entrance of the village to remember all those who worked underground throughout the Rhondda, helping to make the valley a world-famous industrial heartland around the world.
With the support of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, Maerdy Communities First Partnership and The Maerdy Archive launched a Maerdy Gateway Memorial Appeal.
The aim is to raise £40,000 to fund a memorial to commemorate the mining heritage of Maerdy and the Rhondda Valleys.
David Owen, Secretary of Maerdy Archive said, “We are really honoured to have Pendyrus Choir in Maerdy. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone in the area to enjoy Welsh culture at its very best.”
