Emergency services were called to the scene of a serious road traffic collision involving two cars on the A465 heads of the valley road between Brynmawr and Garnlydan, at approximately 11:00pm last night (Friday 14 February).
Officers and colleagues from fire and ambulance attended the collision which involved a blue Peugeot 207 and a silver Peugeot 307.
The passenger of the Peugeot 307, a 20 year old pregnant woman, from the Tredegar area was taken to Nevill Hall hospital in a critical condition. Sadly she and her unborn baby have since passed away.
The male driver of the Peugeot 207, who is from the Basingstoke area, and the male driver of the Peugeot 307 who is from the Tredegar area were uninjured but both are suffering from shock.
The family of the deceased are now being supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time
Officers investigating the circumstances of this tragic incident and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 544 14/02/14.
