Commenting on the announcement that the Welsh Labour Government is to ditch its plans to use legislation to compel local authorities to collaborate, Janet Finch-Saunders AM, Shadow Minister for Local Government, said:
“We welcome Labour’s admission that a ‘command and control’ approach to Welsh local government is not the way to deliver effective local services.
“This U-turn is a refreshing acceptance from Labour Ministers that local authorities should not be micro-managed from Cardiff Bay.
“While we would encourage Welsh Councils to co-operate and share best practice, this should be based on delivering value for money and first class services for local taxpayers.”
