Commenting on the publication of two reports by the Wales Audit Office into unlawful payments to senior officers at Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire Councils, Janet Finch-Saunders AM, Shadow Minister for Local Government, said:
“These reports raise serious concerns about financial probity and scrutiny of the spending of taxpayers’ money.
“Taxpayers rightly expect supposedly hard-pressed councils to spend public money in a thrifty manner and remunerate staff appropriately and within the law.
“These reports are further evidence of the need for a Wales-wide review of senior pay in Welsh local authorities, which is out of control and failing to deliver value for money for hardworking families.”
