Finding Samba soccer skills on Anglesey

Leisure centres on Anglesey are catching up with the great game and introducing Futsal to their centres. Late last year David Hughes Leisure centre launched the game with funding from the Community Chest Grant and £1,000 has now been awarded to each of Plas Arthur, Amlwch and Holyhead leisure centres to introduce the sport.

Futsal is an indoor football game played on a hard-court surface without walls. The ball is smaller than a standard football enabling players to develop on more technical skills.

Gus Williams, Football Development Officer for Anglesey County Council said “This is fantastic news that the opportunity to play this sport is stretched to other leisure centres for people across Anglesey to give it a go.”

The game will be run through the 5 x 60 schemes with local secondary schools,  but the aim is to create an adult league for local communities to take part too.

The Community Chest fund is open to sports and physical activity clubs that require help with a project or new initiative.
