On Saturday the first woman Dean in Wales was collated and installed in Bangor Cathedral.
The Reverend Canon Doctor Sue Jones made history in a service in the packed cathedral. Church and civic dignitaries and academics gathered, along with family and parishioners from around the diocese, to celebrate the event and to congratulate Sue.
Sue is well known in the city because of her work in the parish, with schools and in the education and training of clergy and other ministers.
‘It is good that the church recognises the gifts of both men and women,’ said Sue, ‘and that everyone’s talents can now be used in service.’ Prolonged applause greeted Sue in the service, after a presentation by the children of Cae Top school and even the presentation of a bouquet by Teddy Horsley, a character used in work with children.
