Fishguard RNLI were kept busy on Easter Monday. Both the inshore and all-weather lifeboats were launched just before 4pm and headed towards Abercastle to search for a missing sea kayaker.
Conditions were rough, especially around Strumble Head, with a strong N.E. wind chopping up the sea. Fortunately the male kayaker had managed to scramble ashore with only minor injury scrapes and the inshore lifeboat was able to tow the sea-kayak into Abercastle.
Not long after returning to the Fishguard base both lifeboats were once again launched at 6.45pm. A member of the public had alerted the Coastguard that a group of three kayakers near the Caravan Park between Fishguard and Pwllgwaelod were in difficulties. By now the sea conditions were becoming difficult. One kayaker made it back safely to where the three had launched earlier in the day at Lower Town. Coastguard cliff rescue teams also responded to the scene and it transpired the two missing kayakers had safely made it to shore and were fortunately uninjured.
