Flintshire’s Countryside Rangers say that the waters in Wepre Park, Connah’s Quay reached new heights recently, following the prolonged and heavy rain.
After the severe wet weather, rangers and volunteers spent four days repairing the damage that had been caused.
Senior ranger Gilly Seddon said: “Waters reached a height that regulars using the Park have never witnessed before. What had been a trickle of water coming over the dam quickly became a torrent that could be heard throughout the Park. Wepre Brook filled the valley floor from one end to the other and washed away the path at the end of the boardwalk. The boardwalk was thick with mud and sand and had to be scraped back. Along with all the hard work that had to be done, eels had to be scooped off the football pitch!”
Tom Woodall, Head of Flintshire Countryside Service added: “Our rangers and volunteers have been working steadily to repair the path and clear a dam that had been created from the force of the water washing debris and trees to a bend in the river. As always, we’d like to say a big thank you to the volunteers who put in such a tremendous effort to help us.”
