Flintshire County Council has just released its revised draft waste strategy. The strategy sets out how we intend to meet targets for recycling and disposing of your waste over the next 15 years.
The strategy is in response to a number of policy and regulatory changes at both national and European level that requires waste to be handled in a more sustainable manner. The Council recognises that municipal waste management is changing rapidly and that it’s role is now much more than simply ‘collecting’ and ‘disposing’ of waste.
The perception of waste needs to change. Many of Flintshire’s residents use the blue bags and blue boxes for recycling and the brown bins for garden waste. In addition the Council’s Recycling Parks and bring sites are well used and all of this has led to a substantial increase in recycling and composting in Flintshire over the last 10 years. However, in order for the Council it to meet the very challenging future targets set by the Welsh Assembly we need to do more.
