Flintshire County Council staff reunion on Mount Kilimanjaro

Three Flintshire County Council members of staff are celebrating, having all successfully completed treks up Mount Kilimanjaro in East Africa recently.

Fran Griffiths and Liz Egan, from Education Staffing in the Lifelong Learning Directorate spent six days walking to the summit (19,340 feet).

Fran said “The best part for both of us was reaching the top at Uhuru point at 6.20 in the morning and seeing the fantastic glaciers bathed in the African sun which had risen as we were walking.”

Coincidentally, during their trek (at the 15,500ft mark) they bumped into another Council employee- Duke of Edinburgh Award Worker, Gary Williams, who was walking with another group of people in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Gary’s inspiration is a former colleague from the Council who was diagnosed with MND in 2007.

Gary said: “The trek was tough and emotional, but also uplifting due to the fantastic people I met.”

Gary has raised around £4,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

£3,000 in donations have been received by Fran and Liz for Macmillan Cancer Support.

All three would like to thank those who have very kindly donated.
