Flintshire County Council’s Duke of Edinburgh Award presentation evening

132 young people from across Flintshire recently received their Duke of Edinburgh certificates and badges at a ceremony held at Connah’s Quay Civic Hall.

The DofE award was founded by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in 1956 and is the world’s leading achievement award for young people.

It offers a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities for young people aged 14-24, there are three levels of the award – bronze, silver and gold. Each contains four sections – volunteering, skills, physical and expedition – and takes from six months to achieve bronze and a minimum of 18 months to reach gold level. The gold participants also undertake a residential activity.

Rob Edwards, Youth and Community Officer, at Flintshire County Council introduced the evening and the certificates were presented by Ian Budd, Director of Lifelong Learning;

Stephanie Price, DofE Director for Wales and Elwyn Davies, Head of School Services at the Council.

Entertainment was provided by two bands who included DofE participants – ‘The Ologies’ from St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School and ‘Sooto’ from John Summers High School.

The student hosts for the evening were Zac Stockton from John Summers High School and Lloyd Antrobus from Ysgol Maes Garmon.
