A member of the Flintshire Enterprise Club has received a prestigious business award as the club celebrates its one-year anniversary.
Jordan Barnes, 18, won Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the Free2Network Business Awards 2013. Jordan, who owns two businesses, JB Sounds and Spotlight Holiday Clubs, has been a member of the club since its inception in January 2013 and took part in the very first Dragon’s Den Cyrmru event designed to offer help and support to young people in business.
He said: “I have been a member of the enterprise club for 12 months and I have found it extremely helpful. Each week I have gained more business skills and more confidence. My business is now growing fast and it’s all thanks to the team at Communities First. The different guest speakers each week address different business topics and have really helped. I can now say I am definitely a businessman.”
Local businessman Askar Sheibani CEO of Deeside- based telecoms repair company Comtek, as well as a mentor for Flintshire Enterprise Club and the Welsh Government’s Business Entrepreneurship Champion said:
“We are extremely proud of Jordan Barnes’ achievement of being awarded Young Entrepreneur of the Year. It is a great accomplishment for him and for the Enterprise Club, which has supported him since the first Dragon’s Den Cymru event. The Enterprise Club is a great asset to our community and it gives young entrepreneurs, like Jordan, the advice and business tools to create a successful business. Nurturing talent within local communities is a must, as this investment will create the successful businesses that will bring us one step closer to reviving Britain’s economy nationwide. The Flintshire region is full of young, talented people who are bursting with new ideas, which is why I am confident that Jordan’s success is just the tip of the iceberg for the Enterprise Club going into 2014.”
Councillor Derek Butler, Cabinet Member for Economic Development said:
“The enterprise club is a great opportunity for young people in business to get together and network as well as taking advantage of free workshops to help build and market businesses. It is important that we offer support to people who run their own businesses as they are creating jobs and helping to boost the local economy.”
