Over 100 business delegates from Flintshire attended a reception in the Terrace Pavilion at the Palace of Westminster hosted by David Hanson MP recently, which was held as part of Flintshire Business Week 2011.
Members of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords from North Wales, Wirral and Cheshire joined the Flintshire business community to listen to addresses from Welsh Secretary, Cheryl Gillan MP, and Shadow Chancellor, Ed Balls MP.
Subjects covered a celebration of Flintshire’s manufacturing success, including the recent announcements from Airbus, and the proposed Deeside Enterprise Zone, which will create employment and opportunities within the regional supply chain.
As the final event of Flintshire Business Week 2011, the three headline sponsors and award winning organisations were present, including AGS Security Systems, ConvaTec and Parkway Telecom, joining other sponsors and Flintshire County Council to platform the success of the county and to publicise the fact that Flintshire is ‘Open for Business’.
Councillor Matt Wright, Executive Member for Regeneration and Tourism, said:
“’Flintshire Goes to Westminster’ is one of a number of outstanding events that we held during this year’s Flintshire Business Week, which has been widely acclaimed as our best yet. We have been overwhelmed at the level of interest and support from businesses attending. The Westminster event was a cross party success, and proved to be a great chance for Flintshire’s business leaders to lobby our key decision makers in Westminster.”
Jonathan Turner, Managing Director of AGS Security Systems, said:
“It not only provides Flintshire companies with a great insight into the operation of Westminster but it also gives a fantastic opportunity to engage with politicians from all political parties and to network in a truly stunning setting.
“This is the one chance in the year that Flintshire businesses have an opportunity to put their views to so many politicians and I would like to thank Flintshire County Council for facilitating and arranging such a great event.”
Rhys Hughes, Operations Director, P & A Group, and winners of the FBW Employer of the Year 2011, said:
“We are delighted to be part of the Flintshire Business Week experience and particularly to participate in the Westminster event. It is a privilege to be in the company of so many like-minded businesses with the same focus on growth and development, networking and maximising trading opportunities.”
John Pitchford, Corporate Director, at Barclays Corporate, said:
“Flintshire Business Week has gone from strength to strength over the years and this year’s event has been the most successful yet in my eyes. Across the board the team has put on some first class events, and attendance has been strong.
“The pinnacle of this year’s success was the Awards Ceremony and the London visit – really well done to all concerned. Barclays Corporate are committed to continuing our support for Flintshire Business Week in the future.”
Christine Sheibani, Personnel Director at Comtek Network Systems said:
“Many thanks to the Business Week team for organising such a fantastic event at Westminster. I felt that it was the best one so far. A very enjoyable and fruitful evening which made me proud to be in a business based in Flintshire.”
