‘Enjoy Christmas safely’ is the message from Flintshire Community Safety Partnership for the festive season. At this time of year people enjoy celebrating and the Community Safety Partnership’s ‘Be Safe, Stay Safe’ campaign aims to encourage Flintshire’s residents to enjoy the fun but to drink within their limits.
A multi-agency plan has been developed between the organisations that make up the partnership including Flintshire County Council, North Wales Police, Fire Service and Flintshire Neighbourhood Watch with the aim of working together to tackle community safety issues, coordinating activities and helping residents stay safe over Christmas.
Traditionally there is a link between the increased consumption of alcohol and violent crimes, particularly in town centres at night. Part of the plan is to give advice to enjoy a safe night out:
Make sure you know your limits: Be aware of how much alcohol you are consuming.
How are you getting home? Don’t wait until the end of the evening to organise transport.
Stay out of trouble: Alcohol can make some people more aggressive and irrational. If in doubt, walk away.
Councillor Kevin Jones, Cabinet Member for Waste Strategy, Public Protection and Leisure said:
“We want people to enjoy the festivities and the organisations that make up the Community Safety Partnership are working closely together to raise awareness about keeping safe at this time of year so that everyone can have fun during the holidays.
Residents can also help by showing consideration for neighbours and the elderly at this time of year.”
Chief Inspector Dave Owens said:
“Flintshire remains one of the safest places to live, work and visit. The Community Safety Partnership work together to provide advice and support to ensure that this remains the case over the festive period. You can also contribute by thinking about the effects of excessive alcohol consumption; know and do not exceed your limit and look out for your friends. This should allow us all to be safe and stay safe”.
