A summer soccer camp, organised by Flintshire County Council’s Youth Justice Service (YJS), recently took place at the Deeside Leisure Centre. The four day programme of football aimed to give young people aged 13 – 17 a chance to improve their football skills, as well as to learn social skills and team building through sport.
Chester FC player, Greg Stone, who is also the Flintshire Youth Justice Services Duke of Edinburgh Award worker, along with YJS soccer coach, Alun Winstanley, delivered the four day programme.
The soccer school aims to help link young people into a local football team so that they can continue to use and improve the new football skills they’ve learnt.
Flintshire YJS runs the summer soccer school to offer young people an opportunity to take part in sport in a constructive way, and to reduce the risk of Anti Social Behaviour or of offending in the local community.
The event was supported by North Wales Police PACT funding. On the last day, a presentation ceremony took place, where all the young people who attended were awarded medals and prizes by the High Sheriff of Clwyd, Lloyd FitzHugh.
