Flintshire’s Coastal Rangers invite you to enjoy the Coast Path celebrations this Saturday

This Saturday May 5, Flint Castle is one of only three venues for the launch of the Wales Coast Path, and Flintshire Countryside Service’s Coastal Rangers are encouraging people to come along and enjoy the celebrations.

The event starts at approximately 11am. Television presenter Sian Lloyd will be opening proceedings, and there will be performances from the Moincoin Ceilidh Band, the Trefor Owen Trio and Danswyr Delyn, as well as children’s entertainment. There will also be opportunities to meet the rangers from both Flintshire and Denbighshire, who will be inside the Flint Castle wall, a chance to ask them questions about the path and to see and hear about the hard work that has gone into the Path along the local coastline. There will also be walks to Flint point with the rangers.

Senior Ranger, Mike Taylor, said:

“The Coastal Rangers have been working with a passion for the last five years to ensure that, here in Flintshire, we have a Coast Path for everyone to be proud of. Saturday May 5th will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to join Wales-wide festivities celebrating the Path, which will put Flint well and truly on the Coast Path map! May 5th is just the start though- we will continue with projects along the coast for the rest of this year, and beyond. There’s still lots to be done on viewpoints, interpretation panels, footpath resurfacing and we will be having a series of celebration events for some time to come.”

The Wales Coast Path has been developed by the Welsh Government in partnership with the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), sixteen local authorities and two National Parks. In addition to funding from the Welsh Government and the coastal local authorities of approximately £2 million per year, the European Regional Development Fund has allocated nearly £4 million over four years to support the project.
