Flintshire County Council has agreed the continuation of a council tax grant in 2014-15 for the over 60s in the County who are already in receipt of partial Council Tax Support and is aimed at providing financial assistance to those pensioners in need of most help.
The grant scheme was a specific Welsh Government funded initiative which has been running for four years, but this year payment of the grant is at the discretion of the Council.
The continuation of the grant was widely supported at a recent meeting of the Flintshire cabinet and work is now underway to pay the grants automatically to all qualifying households in early July 2014.
Over 2,200 pensioner households are set to qualify for grants up to a maximum level of £95 without the need for pensioners to complete application forms
Commenting on the implementation of the grant scheme, Councillor Aaron Shotton said “At a time when local government is facing major challenges on funding public services, I am proud to announce the continuation of this scheme during 2014-15”.
