Flintshire’s schools celebrate Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week

Many of Flintshire’s primary and secondary schools are celebrating Lloyds TSB National school sport week this week. There will be a host of exciting sports and physical activities happening around the county including Athletics, Tri Golf, Street Skills, Dodgeball and Football.

Abermorddu County Primary School is dedicating much of this week to promoting sport and fun activities for the whole school, with a full programme planned for all year groups. The week will culminate in a mini Olympic games on Friday 1 July. As an additional challenge, pupils are encouraged to try for a ‘personal best’ at an Olympic or Paralympic sport.

The sessions are being run by teachers and coaches and supported by Dragon Sport and Sport Flintshire. Michelle Thomas, Dragon Sport Officer said:

“It’s really encouraging to see so many schools sign up to this exciting initiative and the children will love the huge variety of sports on offer. After this week we will be encouraging the children to join local clubs so they can carry on participating.”

This year over 50% of Flintshire’s schools have signed up for the initiative. The schools will demonstrate this commitment by running additional sports activity over the course of the week.

Matt Hayes, Active Young People Coordinator said: “These initiatives are a fantastic way for children to become hooked on sport for life.”
