Work on restoring Cae Ddol pond in Ruthin is being delayed due to the River Clwyd bursting its banks over the weekend.
The pond restoration works were planned to begin this month, but have been delayed due to high river levels over the winter months.
Despite efforts to release some of the water in late 2010, the water level in the pond did not drop sufficiently. Contractors had planned to use a large pump to help extract the water, but this approach was not possible due to recent flooding.
The product that is being used to line the pond is bentonite clay and it is essential that the base of the pond is dry during installation.
The delay means that the five week restoration project would extend into the bird nesting season and especially for the resident swans which are known to nest early. The council has a duty under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 not to cause disturbance during the nesting season.
The council will be reviewing the situation in the summer to see when the work can be rescheduled.
The tree and shrub planting which forms part of the project will continue as planned.
The other facilities in the park are expected to be available as normal.
